I would say just keep the binding on for now, you may be perfectly fine when you quilt it. Many times I have sewn the binding on lap or baby quilts, then quilting the border, so I imagine the same is true with what you have done. Who knows maybe you have come up with a terrific way to speed up the quilting phase of making a quilt.
