Ido this all the time. I'm allergic to many of the batting and I always put the binding on first. That way the batting is sealed in and doesn't bother me as much. Don't you love it? A quilter who's allergic to batting and some fabric dyes!
So don't rip, trust me, it can be quilted after the binding is on. Good luck.
