Your red FW made me smile! BUT..... I'm one of those who just love their black ones complete with scratches and stories to tell. I dress mine up with colorful spoolpin cozies. In fact the one I'm using right now has a green small one, larger white and the largest one on it is red. ( No sence to have the cozies you can't see under the spool of thread.) I have crochet a lot of them and can switch them out when I want.
IF I ever got a FW that really looked bad, I just might be tempted to repaint it. I like looking at the colors others have painted them. I think I'd like a purple one if that happened. I was never partial to purple until I started looking for purple things for one of my twin GDs, and now I have more purple in my life and am loving it. (The other twin loves pink, as does their older sister.)
