I would definitiely ask her. If you have done baby quitls in the past for her--that have lighter quitling on them--she may be expecting something similar. I personally do not like much quilting on baby quilts so I would be extremely disappointed if someone did the to a quilt of mine without consulting me first. I say all this with experience--as I also do quilting for customers and even if they say I can do whatever I want, I still try to get a feel for what style they like. I ask them if they want simple quilting or more dense quilting. I ask them if they like feathers or not. I still try to figure out what style they like --even if they say I can do whatever I want on their quilt. Good luck.
