When I was doing cross stitch, I used a blunt needle that would hold the threads I wanted. I would split the DMC to three because I like the coverage. I do not remember the brand name, but I am sure that most any would serve well. I am guessing that you are doing this by hand. If it is a machine, I am at a loss because I do not have one.
