I wouldn't go for a step stool or any sort of a platform ... too easy to fall off, and sprain/break your leg/ankle!
Ditto ... consider removing the wheels
Another option would be to have someone cut a few inches off the legs of the tables. Just be sure first as to what height you want it to be.
