You can use the fusible method for quilts, wall-hangings, bags etc. and no it doesn't crinkle the vine(provided you cut the tape on the bias. If you are just placing the tape in straight lines there is no need to cut it on the bias). Clover make one type of fusible which is compatible to use with their tape maker - you can make the bias and iron the tape on at the same time. There is also another brand, the name of which escapes me at the moment, which works well but needs to be ironed on separately. It is a lot cheaper (here in Australia , anyway). Hope that helps.
