Do you not find that they are swimming in fat/grease when you do not pre-cook to get it out?
I tried just putting in the crock pot with barbeque sauce and I didn't like all the fat that mixed with the sauce, so I brown them first, then crock pot for about 6 hours, dump out the grease and then add the sauce to the crock pot and leave for another hour... I suppose it depends on how fatty your ribs are on how you want to do it.
