Just remembered. when I was a kid, every New Year's my mother would fix black eyed peas and hogs jaw. I have never been able to stand Black Eyed Peas! I'm not sure my kids have ever had them. It was a tradition when she was growing up. I changed it to roast beef! My kids think that it's turkey for Thanksgiving, Ham for Christmas and Roast Beef for New Year's. When we become adults we can start our own traditions.
By the way, my Auntie used to make the best salmon and/or mackerel patties - yum! My DH and kids hate them. Oh well, I could always make a bunch then freeze them.
