One really important step I haven't read yet in this thread: keep the fabric sandwich taut while you tie it.. Someone said to baste it, but it needs to be taut to baste also. I have a quilt frame that I would pin it to, but another way would be to clamp it to a table top. Some people lay it on the floor and use duct tape to keep it taut.

Then I would pin it every six inches or so to keep the layers flat with no puckers. Too late for the glue treatment. LOL

I've done very many quilts with wool ties, which get tighter with each washing. They will NEVER come out! And the only issue with the little bumps would be if you were going to walk on your quilt with bare feet. You would feel it.
