New fabrics for the year are shown in both the spring and fall at Quilt Market. This year Portland was the place for Spring Market, in the fall it is always in Houston. Shop owners from all over the world travel to the markets to choose the fabrics they want for the upcoming year. If you go onto a specific website {Moda, Benartex, RJR, etc.} it may show when particular fabrics should be arriving in your LQS. Since magazine articles have to be done and printed in a timely manner, the fabric used in their displays may already be sold out before you even purchase the magazine. I agree that Quilt Shops.com is a very good source for finding fabric. It's my favorite!
