I could never get mine to stay in the "ditch" so I found a wavy stitch on my machine and I use that to go over the seams - that way if it isn't just right no one but me knows
Be prepared to wrestle with the quilt - tug, pull , twist if you are using a machine with a small harp BUT I have never damaged any of mine and I usually win LOL
