Connecting threads is a heavier thread and I couldn't use it in my Janome. It was my dealer who pointed out that it was the culprit. You should use the same top and bottom anyways.
Also, the blue dot bobbin case is actually a convenience so you don't have to keep changing tensions when going from quilting to regular piecing or sewing. I bought one for that reason and love having it!
