From the picture it looks like the marks on the clutch knob are from the gear puller. Or am I seeing it wrong? My gear puller needs to be 'hooked' over the flared end of the flange then the screw is placed against the bare end of the main that is showing through the flange. Clear as mud?

Not everything works out as well as you might hope even with the best tools and equipment available to you. I was trying to remove a flange on an upper shaft and it broke. I was using a torch and a gear puller at the time this happened. Sadly, I will have to shelf this project for the time being.
