I've used muslin both in quilt blocks and as a foundation for blocks. I use a higher quality for the front side of a quilt. I don't know the brands, but I buy the one that feels right. I don't use muslin on the back of quilts, because I prefer to use a darker color for backings so it doesn't show dirt as well.
