Thanks, I used both the hair dryer and the sewing machine oil and the tape came off with minimal damage. I think it's a Bel Air 600 which looks just like a Singer 66. This morni g I cleaned up the machine, oiled her up and tried to run her. The motor smokes but more than that the the maching keeps running after the foot pedal lever is stopped. I had to unplug the machine. I took apart the foot pedal and some of the wires look odd. I want to check this out with someone more knowledgable than me about electricity. The machine will produce a nice stitch just using the hand wheel .
