Yes there is more fabric under the grate to get every last drop! A friend of mine brought the technique up from her Florida guild for us to try. The painting is an off shoot of a Mickey Lawler class. I didn't want the paint sitting on top of the fabric so I decided to do it like a batik all the way through the fabric to the other side. I use a sprayer and put in the pebeo setacolor paints, tsukineko ink and water to get the color I want and spray away! I also use paints and inks on the fabric before and after spraying. To make the skies I use freezer paper edged with presist to hold it down when sprayed. This is how I now do "tea dying" and over dying to get the same tone on fabrics ie. grays.Tons of fun and variations.
