That tan Singer 306K that I sold was rough as a cob. The crinkle 128 that I'm not sure I still have after I moved(lol) is matte finish but not nearly as rough.
But I would bet that the paint actually could be smoothed down and some gloss added by hand-rubbing with rubbing compounds for car paint.
