I generally use Carol Doak's foundation paper. 100 sheets for $8 or $9 (depends where you get it). I like to tear out the paper in the evenings and I have some tweezers to pull out the smaller pieces. I have also used the permanent foundation called "Fundation". But it is pricier and does lend some weight to the blocks. However it also gives some stability which is nice. I do NOT dampen the paper. Tiny stitches work the best for me.....I suppose that depends on the paper too.
