I agree with the statement here - and it makes the quilt confusing when vastly different styles of design/fabric are used in large areas like your quilt (small piece scrappy quilts are different). I like the ideas of brighter colors or even black and white (if there is more black than white). The white on your blocks makes the inner "card" stand out very well and give one level of rest for the eye.

The fabric looks like a totally different style to me. The print in the blocks is very distinct. The marble-y fabric is more subtle.
