You can make quilts with the ones you have. It is just easier to make them on a machine that has a wide throat. To answer you question: one straight stitcher, one sewing machine, a serger and an embellisher - enough for me at the moment as I discovered that the embroidery machines have to be constantly updated in order to be viable.
