Yes we have palm trees even right up in the North West of Scotland, they make full use of the Gulf Stream! Here in Wales we get flies but if your house is clean not enough to worry about or use screens, unless you are allergic to midges, which I am. They are not too bad here but in Scotland they are a real menace to the extent that the Soldiers in Inverness barracks are given Avon Skin so Soft spray to keep them away
