Nothing pleases me more than when someone loves the enhancement and love I put on their works of art. Yes, love because I love what I do and treat every quilt like it was mine because I know how much of our souls we put into our creations.
I started with one heckuva canvas with Buddy's mom's gorgeous quilt. When April brought it to me we knocked around a few ideas to try and tie it all together. April came up with something circular in the border. So when "Persian" was about to hit the rack, pretty much all I had was "something cicular in the border" to bring out those medallions (I loved that border fabric!). I stood and stared and sketched a few ideas. Got the jacobian style flower from the dark purple fabric and came up with a motif for the light golden yellow alternating blocks between the sampler blocks. Buddy's mom's piecing was impeccable so I wanted to really make it shine. I did SID around all the piecing and then took a que from Green Fairy's style of doing a background fill to get those sampler elements to pop. So I alternated pebbles and mussel shells (also called headbands). When that idea hit there was no holding me back.
Thank you April for giving me the opportunity to enhance your mom's already beautiful top. I was afraid for a while I couldn't do it justice. I think Buddy's mom should enter it in Empire Quilt fest as well. A juryed show open to any quilter from NY state. I would love to see it hanging at EQF. Please let me know how you do at the fair too! When the quilt finally takes up residence on Buddy's mom's bed she will sure sleep like a baby because of all the love in that quilt!
Edited to add the techy details if anyone wants them. Two layers of batting. A layer of Hobbs 80/20 and Hobbs Polydown on top of that. Quilted with Filtec Glide in a soft goldy yellow color. Magnaglide bobbin in white in the bottom.
