I just love the way you are fulfilling her wish of 100 horses. This is one of the prettiest panel quilts I have seen. I hope your LAer can expand on the horse theme. I would quilt a galloping horse in the grass rectangles that are above and below the panels and also appear on the sides.
Thanks for the great idea! Those rectangles are there to make the centre into a size that even blocks could build around. This quilt was a big exercise in mathematics. The panels were neither square nor regular.
