I agree - I keep a mechanical pencil nearby for this type of marking. I buy the inexpensive package in the school supply area right after school starts - great deals.
I got a whole package of the regular mechanical pencils (6) at the $1 store and a refill pack of about 10 leads also at the $1 store. I use them for everything and they erase easily, too.
I do need to find/try something though for dark fabrics. These pencils being discussed sound interesting.
