Don't feel bad. I've been quilting, teaching, shop owning, designing patterns for over 30 years and I didn't have a clue what "slab" referred to either!
The only "slab" I know is the one my Texas house was built on. Had to follow Kitsie's google idea and opened a whole new world!!

You made me laugh, Jan. Yes, my Texas house is built on a "slab" of concrete.....and sometimes these slabs shift and you end up with fine cracks in your walls. That's Texas soil for you.
I had never heard the term "slab" when referring to a quilt, either. We're adding to our descriptive language today.
