I haven't done much applique and they do look very intimidating, but there is an element of which it is the same method no matter what, just maybe more pieces than I'm used to. That would be a really nice one for hand applique. Several of my friends are doing wool applique and it has several advantages. The edges of the applique don't fray and it's just buttonhole stitch which is easy. Everybody that I know that's doing wool applique says it's pretty easy to work with.
