Here is how I do a quick Silicon hose setup to work on machines. I give them Leather belts once all of the bugs are worked out.
Here is a Howe Model B with no belt. To complicate matters there are two issues;
1. The Howe B has the drive wheel below the bed.
2. Some Yutz in the past replaced the Howe base wheel with a singer.... grrrr

The Pic just show the original bobbin winder in place but the "retro" wheel is too small to reach it.

I start by cutting a short length and cutting it up one side

here is it stuffed in one side.

Here it is in both. The hose is just drawn around until it is as tight as you would like it the snipped.

Final step is to stitch both side of the hose together. Any stitch pattern seems to work.
and the belt is on.
