Lots of good ideas and links here. One thing that I do and it's not mentioned here, I think, is find and keep pictures out of catalogs (Keepsake Quilting catalog is the best for that). I usually don't use a pattern anyway and, while there might be only one quilt I find stunning, in a catalog, over the years I have acquired a stack of pictures. Also, I've bookmarked on QB a lot of sensational quilts. I have a tendency to buy the fabric first and then find what I want to use it for; of course, I often have to buy more fabric to add to what I have.
