My machine is somewhat difficult to tell what length you have it set on so I just have to look at the length of the stitches and figure out if they're what I want and adjust accordingly. Not very scientific by works for me.
I usually do the same thing but for the past 3 weeks my GD was here and we worked on several different projects besides quilting and I noticed on some fabrics the stitches didn't seem to be enough to hold it together. Which got me to thinking about this whole thing again.
