What type of machine do you have?
If a machine is not made with quilting in mind, there will be problems. I machine quilted two full size quilts on a Viking and it had a small throat. It was strictly stitch in the ditch. Adjust the quilt, sew a few inches, readjust quilt, sew a few inches. The quilt kept snagging on the lever for the presser foot and getting caught up in the thread from the spool. Now my Juki has a nice big throat - 9" wide but it the space is also taller. And there is nothing to catch on the quilt. The lever to the presser foot is on the back and the thread comes down on the front of the machine.
I highly recommend watching Leah Day on you tube and also reading Marti Michelle's quilting in sections. Sounds like the best method for you would be having the batting in sections. There's a product at Joann'es that you can buy to connect two pieces of batting together. I can't remember the name but I'm sure someone on here can give you the name.
King size is pretty big. You might want to check with your local quilt store to see if they know anyone who could machine quilt it for you.
