I like what you have suggested, satin bow ties, pieced with the cotton ( add stability to the satin edges) and Minky on the back. I might try it with cotton bow ties, pieced with cotton and flannel on the back to see which turned out best. You might also try a smaller version with 1 bow tie to attach the toy in the center and add the ribbon loops around the edges to make a taggie/ bow tie combo.
