Depending on what kind of money you want to spend, but to save money, go during the week. Rates go up dramatically on the week end. It is fun to stay on the Strip - you can walk to so many places. But parking is free at the casinos, so if you are going to rent a car, you will see a lot more. All the big Casinos have deals, and a lot of them give you money to play in their hotel. Or they comp you food. We love Las Vegas and have a time-share there so go quite a bit. Also some of the casinos have shows where they will give you a discount to the shows.
Do you have any idea which shows you want to see? It is cheaper to buy the tickets when you get there - the on-line fees can be pretty high, but then you run the risk of not seeing the show you want to see. Check to see which days are dark for the show and schedule around those.
They have some pretty wonderful quilt shops too. I believe there is even a quilt tour.
