Make practice "sandwiches" from scraps of muslin and batting. They are easier to handle. It takes some practice to figure out what speed works best for you. I tend to have to go faster around the curves when meandering so the back bobbin thread doesn't look pulled. If you can, always have the needle stop in the down position.
