I have been through this process very dishearteningly while researching my two German made Phoenix machines. There are HEAPS of them for sale on
www.ebay.de and if you find one with a manual, you can contact the seller and ask if they will copy the manual for you and sell it to you separately. I have had luck with this after a couple of false starts.
Some search terms are:
Sewing machine: nahmaschine
Manual: Bedienungsanleitung or Gebrauchsanleitung
Model: Klasse or Kl. XX
Find out if the name of the machine will be the same in German - eg. words like "automatic" may be different.
