To aid you when you are having to stitch "away from the ditch" you can put a piece of blue painter's tape on your quilt top and then stitch beside it. We used this technique on a quilt to help us have somewhat straight quilting lines through out the quilt in both directions. There was no one seam that went the whole way to follow!!!
