I have a pattern for an appliqued butterfly with embroidery that is probably the one you are looking for. As soon as I find it I will post it. I acquired it when trying to duplicate a quilt my great grandmother made in the 30's or 40's. It was one of those patterns published in the newspaper back then and I found it in an old magazine. The original quilt was loved to death and is in poor condition.
My grandmother used to make the same quilt with the butterflies. This one and what she calld "Little Dutch Girl" and "Little Dutch Boy" were the ones she always made. The wings were fabric, appliqued on with blanket stitch, the antennae were straight running stitch, body was satin stitch. Quite a coincidence, I just bought a set of 10 of these blocks at a garage sale last week for $7. They reminded me of my grandmother, so I had to get them!
