Thank you so much for you're replies, JustABitCrazy, having no real comparison, I had to just peruse the net and guess. Gay, Your suggestion was a brilliant idea and I've spent the last few hours faffing with paper, pencils and rulers to try and get an approximate size. It seems to be right, but I'll be cutting out and trying later this afternoon and will let you know. I hope your template stays together.
craftygater, I have a similar quilt that is taking me years. It's all hand stitched flying geese with panels inbetween... I think this flock of birds is mocking me and flying off... I don't seem to be coming to an end. Your DWR sound wonderful. Quilting as I go is the reason I want to do the Rings that bind method. I need more practice free motion quilting as I haven't quite got the neat nack, yet. So if I make a mess, it isn't in the middle of a kingsize quilt.
Again, thank you for your help and adive. I'll let you know how I get on using my wallpaper lining pattern templates!
