I've done this. Frustrating, isn't it? What I found worked best was to take the stitches out from inside the quilt. In other words, the wrong side of top and back. You can gently pull the fabric away and cut the stitch. Just cut every fourth stitch or so and use masking tape to pick the thread up. Your quilting is nice. Good luck.
