I just followed the tutorial on this board when I did mine. The illustrated instructions by cutebuns were very easy to follow.
At that point I don't think I was even aware of the possibility of doing the cubes.
I have since decided that I personally prefer showing off the individual kaleidoscope patterns created and add the solid triangles between the hexes.
Still enjoy the beauty others create however they do it!
