welcome- it sounds like you have a great future ahead in the sewing/quilting world. I have a couple 'vintage' machines- my favorite for piecing is my singer 99-K; it makes the most wonderfully perfect little straight stitch- I find it the best for piecing lonestar or bargello quilts- ones with lots of pieces that accuracy is important for- I have a very expensive computerized machine that does not hold a candle to the precision and simplicity of that 99.
