L.Welcome from MD. I consider myself a second time beginner as well. I love Janome, but am not gonna offer mechanical advice since I do all the asking about that on here! If you can't figure it out, take it to a local dealer if you have one. It might need a Good cleaning and oiling and whatever else they diagnose.
