A lot of people seem to be moving south now. NC is a fairly nice state ...... we get do get summer weather and winter weather but not to the extreme. That's what I like about NC .... change of seasons, pretty leaves on the ground, and some snow now and then but usually does not stick around for very long. (Of course, weather patterns have changed so much this year that's it's hard to predict what will happen in the future.) I am in the upper middle of the state. You can go to the mountains or the shore for vacations/trips easily. There are several quilt guilds in the Greensboro area and the Raleigh/Chapel Hill area that I know for sure. There are probably more around too. Fabric stores? Well, if you want the best, move to Gastonia (or at least within driving distance of it) and you will be near the ultimate fabric store .... MaryJo's. Good luck with your search. I am sorry that you lost your home but good to know that you and your husband survived and are trying to move on with your life.
PS: Forgot to mention that there are snakes in NC but in the Triad area of NC, the only poisonous one is the Copperhead and there are some non-poisonous ones such as the garter snake. If you stay in the suburban area, you won't see many of them. And oh, I don't like snakes either ....... UGH ...... but have gotten used to seeing one once in a while. My dogs seem to help keep them out of the yard some.
