Maybe you guys have ideas for what to do about this.

If you didn't read my other posts, I'm doing a Super Mario quilt and creating the items from the 3rd game into blocks. It has 20 blocks (9") and 22 colors (if memory serves me right).

My problem is that all the blocks are completely different (with the exception of the Super Mushroom and 1-UP Mushroom) and have different colors (the only common ground being black and white). So I'm not really sure how to stitch this together and what color thread to use for it. My first idea was to sew around each color---like if there was a chunk of white, sew along the edge of that portion. Then I remembered there's 20 colors and that would get expensive and absolutely painstaking to try to match each thread to each color. Or maybe do that with just the black and the white, but because each block has different amounts of black and white I'm not sure if that would work either.

I need some ideas. What might be the best/better way to go about this?
