Very pretty quilt. The best reason I can think of for adding borders is that they will take the brunt of the force when pulling your quilt around, say when making the bed or pulling it up under your chin at night. Otherwise, the seams of the blocks will take the wear and tear and possibly come apart sooner. It would be easier to repair or replace a border than an intricate piece.
