I absolutely love flannel for lightweight quilts. Just be sure you are getting good quality flannel. froggyintexas

It also depends on what part of California she lives in. I'd suggest either a flannel for the batting or a sheet. Either one is excellent for a lightweight quilt, and will hold up extremely well for the inside of a quilt, if you don't want to use batting because of weight and warmth issues.
