We live in a very warm climate, possibly warmer than anywhere in California except the desert, but we have high humidity, so our nights may be hotter than desert nights. Anyway, people who have air conditioners generally use lightweight quilts to keep the draft off. I just wanted to comment that W&N is okay here. Also, I had no idea how very thin it is until I removed the binding from some placemats I'd made (long story), and I was amazed at how thin W&N looked after only a few washings. I would say it's no more than a sixteenth of an inch. It might be that it's thinner along the edge because I ironed the binding down before sewing it, but I have the impression it is that thin all the way. It looks just fine in a quilt, but it's certainly thin. If I were doing it, I'd just stick with the one that's familiar because there's no good reason to change in this instance.
