If the smell is coming from the mat - how are any of these things put on the outside of it going to stop it?

It seems to me that these things just have to do it in their own time.

(It seems to me to be in the same category as trying to make flatulence odorless by putting hand lotion on one's hands)

It does seem odd that the manufacturers haven't figured out a way to make them odorless.

I don't remember them being so potent many years ago. Were they?
