Yes, I tried those things. So, I called the repair guy and he said sounds like the switch is bad. You have to switch on the light to make the machine work. And he said the same thing about the wire being frayed. Have reported all this to friend and now they have to decide whether or not to continue on. Repair guy said would need to replace switch and maybe light socket. Thanks for your help.
