Grandma could have used a Singer in the 20's but it wouldn't have been a Featherweight. Featherweights were first introduced in 1933 and they were expensive for their time. My MIL bought hers as a new bride in 1947 and her machine and card table were just under $150. Her new husband (my FIL) considered this a huge fortune and Mary said she had to use her egg money for months to pay back the family farm account.
